What is this project?
GMOD-Teach-GMA is an open‑source software/utility/project created for the Garry’s Mod community. Its purpose is very simple: to allow easy, automatic installation of manual mods, especially those that come in .gma or .bin format.
For context: a .gma file is the official packaged addon format used by Garry’s Mod, generated by the gmad tool included with the game. More info here: GMod Wiki – GMAD.
.bin files are binary fragments or packages that some addons use to store additional content. GMOD-Teach-GMA also processes them automatically.
How do you use it?
The workflow is extremely simple. You only need to provide two paths (folders) on your PC. To do this, open the config.ini file and fill in the fields:
GMAD-LS= your/path/where-your.gma-or-bin-are
GMOD-DIR= your/path/where-your/GarrysMod/garrysmod-is
(Important: no spaces in the paths).
Once configured, just run GMoD-TeachGMAD.exe and press Enter. The program will automatically install all the mods, including the .bin files.
Notes
Currently there is no system to name or organize the resulting folders after installing the mods. This means addons may end up a bit messy, with several sharing generic names or similar folders. This aspect will be significantly improved in future versions.

Explained in simple terms
Garry’s Mod is a sandbox based on the Source Engine, where the community creates thousands of addons, maps, models and tools. Many of these addons come in .gma format, which is basically a compressed file that contains all the mod’s content.
GMOD-Teach-GMA is a tool that:
- Reads .gma files
- Extracts their contents
- Processes .bin files
- Places everything automatically into the correct garrysmod/addons folder
- Saves you from installing mods manually one by one
In short: it saves you time, automates the process and reduces errors.
